Signing off -- and a new beginning?

As I'm sure most of the BSC community knows, I left Bluefield in August to take up a new position in Oregon. In the excitement of moving, I forgot to pass on the blog to another librarian -- which I'll try to do this week. I enjoyed my years at BSC and will miss a lot of the people I met, and I wish you all the best.

Overdue notices mailed

Yesterday we sent out overdue notices. If you provided an e-mail address on your library card application and you have a book overdue, you'll receive an e-mail from "Circ Email Notices" with the subject "Circulation Notices."

Just a reminder: you can always use the "My Account" option on the library catalog page to see what you have checked out and when it's due. You can call the library for a renewal if you need to keep an item beyond its due date. If you receive an overdue notice and you've already returned the book, please give us a call -- we'll double-check. This is our first set of overdue notices generated by the new system, and we need to know if there are any problems with it.

Chat reference service

Need to ask a quick question? Look just under the library photo, and you'll see a "Chat Now" button. If there's a green light, you can click on the button to chat with a librarian. You don't need any special software; just click the button, type in the smaller bottom box of the form, and wait for an answer in the big box. Please give it a try -- we're still working out a few bugs but I think it'll be very useful.

Summer at the library

First, congratulations to the 500+ new graduates of Bluefield State College!

Second, our summer library hours begin this week -- we're open from 8 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends.

Third, our Fourth Friday Book Club meeting is scheduled at noon this Friday, May 20th. Join us for a lively discussion, and to pick up a copy of our next book.

Wireless hotspot

The library is now a wireless hotspot! A wireless server mounted near the circulation desk should provide connectivity anywhere in the building. If you have a laptop with a wireless card, come in and try it out -- we'd like to know how well it works for you.

Fourth Friday Book Club -- New Books!

The Fourth Friday Book Club will meet this Friday at noon. Our next book, Letters of a Woman Homesteader, has arrived! Please return the copies of Memphis Tennessee Garrison at the meeting or as soon as possible afterward.
