Book Club books have arrived!

12 copies of Memphis Tennessee Garrison have arrived from the Library Commission! Our discussion schedule will be:

April 22 -- Memphis Tennessee Garrison
May 20 -- Letters of a Woman Homesteader
June 24 -- Big Stone Gap
July 22 -- The Liars' Club
August 26 -- The Time Traveler's Wife


If you can't attend meetings but would like to read along, just stop by the library and sign out a copy -- we have a few extras. We may add an online component -- either an e-mail book discussion or a Yahoo! group -- if there is interest.

Closing Sunday for Easter

The library will be closed on Sunday, March 27, so that staff members may celebrate Easter. We'll be open regular hours on Saturday and Monday.

Yesterday I was preparing for a library instruction session this morning, and I came across the best APA and MLA citation websites I've ever seen. Hats off to Long Island University, and take a look at these:

Great start for the Book Club!

Six people attended the inaugural meeting of the BSC Book Club. We'll be using the West Virginia Library Commission's Reading Group Collection of books for our first few months. These are books available for loan to reading groups at no charge -- there are over 100 titles, and for each title there are 12-15 copies of the book plus reading guides and other material. We've sent in our initial choices, and we'll see which title arrives first -- I'll announce it right here as soon as I know.

Book Club meeting Friday

The new BSC Book Club will meet at noon Friday, March 18. We'll get together on the second floor of the library, discuss our meeting schedule, and decide which books we want to read first. A brief list of books we might consider is available from the Hardway Library web site, but more recommendations would be wonderful -- either e-mail Robin Shapiro, rshapiro@bluefieldstate.edu, or bring books to the meeting.

Inclement weather -- open 'till 5 PM

Bluefield State College is on the Inclement Weather schedule today. Thus, the library opened at 9 AM and will close at 5 PM.

Spring Break library hours

As I'm sure everyone in the BSC community knows, Spring Break is here!

Here's the library schedule for next week:

Saturday 3/5 and Sunday 3/6, the library will be closed.
Monday 3/7 through Friday 3/11, the library will be open from 8 AM to 4 PM.
Saturday 3/12 and Sunday 3/13 the library will be closed.
On Monday, March 14, our usual schedule will resume.
